Please Welcome the All-New Android App!

Attention, earthlings! The Howcast application for Android has landed. With much of the same functionality as our popular iPhone application, Howcast for Android allows you to browse, search and play Howcast videos straight from your Android-powered mobile phone.  You can also give your Android device a shake to play a random video.

One of the best parts of Howcast Android app is that we’ve modified the video player—you can now navigate within the video step-by-step just like you can on Howcast.com. Want to watch a specific step or happened to miss something? Simply move your track ball to the relevant point in the timeline and jump throughout the video.

With 9 phones currently available across carriers in the US and internationally and many more on the way in the upcoming months, the Android platform is simply exploding.

To learn more about the innovative features of the Howcast Android application, visit http://info.howcast.com/android.  To get Howcast for your Android-powered phone, open Android Market from your phone and search for “Howcast.”

We had a chance to demo our new Android app last month at the Motorola Booth at the CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment Convention in San Diego (alongside two other cool apps— CardStar and Superpages.) Complete With Howcast juggling balls, hula hoops, and an Android robot, people used our Androi app on the Motorola CLIQ to learn How To Juggle Tree Balls, How To Hula-Hoop, and do just about anything. Everyone loved the app and got into the act!

DRINK!

Tonight, it’s the glorious moment we’ve all been waiting for: Biden vs. Palin, Celebrity Deathmatch-style. The potential veeps will battle head-to-head (how much would you pay for some toe-to-toe?) in front of an expected 50 million people, all of them no doubt totally transfixed. Just 90 minutes will determine who experiences the thrill of victory, and who suffers the agony of defeat. Democracy rules!

What better way to celebrate the Rumble in Missouri than to create a game around it? And not just any game—a drinking game. Well, we’ve gone ahead and done it for you, and admit it—you wanted us to. So check out How to Turn a Presidential Debate into a Drinking Game. We’ll certainly be playing along here at Howcast….Will you?

P.S. To prep yourself for the impending doom of tomorrow morning, you also might want to check out our tips on How to Cure a Hangover. Just saying.

How to Create a Baby-headed Dancing Frog on BoingBoing

It was love at first site! Boing Boing’s Mark Frauenfelder really enjoyed our How to Create a Baby-headed Dancing Frog video, and so did some of his readers–”Best DIY mod EVAR!”

Thankfully anyone can have a tattooed animatronic creature of their very own to love, because we’ve got the how-to right here in our Weird Science playlist.

Thanks Mark! Thanks Boing Boing! We’re honored that our creature feature caught your eye.

Fool Proof April Fool’s

April 1 is a great day for angry office workers: It’s the one day of the year when you can make a fool out of your foes in the name of a national holiday — and they can’t get mad without looking like a bad sport!

To that end, Howcast has provided a Fool Proof April Fool’s Day Playlist showing you a dozen ways to get under your co-workers’ skin, from booby-trapping their office to rigging the office toilets. Check it out…
Playlist: Foolproof April Fool’s Day Pranks

Oh, and remember that April Fool’s Day begins at home — and there’s no reason not to celebrate April Fool’s Day year round. Is there ever a bad day to short-sheet a roommate’s bed or tinker with the shower to bathe them in chicken soup?

Get Your Irish Up!

Does “going green” make you think of tedious things like recycling stinky tuna cans and carpooling? Us too. That’s why we’re deliriously happy that, every March 17, being green means the opposite of self-denial – par-tay!

Eat, drink and be merry, Irish-style

And since no one appreciates an excuse to whoop it up like Howcast, we’ve provided tips on how to eat, drink and be merry, Irish-style.

For the lads, there are guides on how to pour a perfect Black & Tan and how to make green beer.

For the lasses, there’s advice on how to get a leg up on the competition when it comes to picking up a handsome fireman (and, yes, there’s more to it than walking into a pub, thank you very much).

Best of all, there’s a recipe for green pizza that one of our chefs whipped up for those of you who love the Irish but are less charmed by their cuisine (in other words, everyone). Even our resident Irishman, Michael, approves!

And remember, please drink responsibly – bring enough cash to pay for your round.

Update:

Our San Francisco office really took this post to heart, ending a long day at Schroeder’s to raise a toast to old Paddy: Pics on Flickr. Looks like a good time was had by all.

Meanwhile, back in NYC, we celebrated old Paddy by treating ourselves to a buttery slice of Irish Soda Bread made by yours truly, using one of our very own Howcast Wiki Guides: How to Make Irish Soda Bread.

Valentine’s Day: A Survival Guide

Yeah, yeah, we know: Valentine’s Day is a corporate charade, a holiday created in some anonymous, soulless boardroom to perk up the economic doldrums of February. And we shouldn’t let ourselves be jerked around by groupthink, a nation of sheep hijacked by visions of chocolate hearts and long-stemmed roses. And we should be capable of expressing love every day of the year without being ordered to do so.

We know all that, and whatever else you might be thinking. We kind of think it, too.

On the other hand, February is pretty bleary… And chocolate and flowers might be a little clichéd, but, well, they’re also kind of fantastic. And if we didn’t create holidays for the express purpose of forcing ourselves to do what we should anyway, what would we do with all that canned cranberry sauce?

Herewith, we present our playlist, Valentine’s Day: A Survival Guide:

Valentines Day Playlist

It covers everything from those awkward first fumblings at romance, like “How to Get Someone’s Phone Number,” to slightly more advanced courting maneuvers, like “How to Get Rid of a Hickey.” From flirting to kissing to impressing the parents, our Survival Guide covers the bases of amore… and more.

And yes, if you’re still unconvinced, there’s even a pair of “How to Tell If Your Boyfriend or Girlfriend is Psycho” videos for the Valentine’s Scrooge in all of us.

“Celebrate Good Times… Come On”

Yesterday, with our site launched and our first press release out the door, the Howcast Team finally had some time to take a break and celebrate — on both coasts.

In NYC and San Francisco, we popped some bubbly, dug into scrumptious cake and celebrated Howcast.

A good time was had by all…

Cheers, Darlene
